Our Story
We met in the incredibly romantic way of many millenneals…on a dating app.
The real magic began on our first date, which took place on May 2nd, 2023 in an empty bar/restaurant in Kenwood, OH. The nerves of first date jitters quickly vanished as our date took a turn from the generic getting-to-know-you small talk to discussing and exploring the most obscure and bizaare topics. This inevitably led to an ugly cry laughing, makeup running, snot dripping, having trouble breathing, type conversation. By the end, our sides hurt from laughing, the bartender was giving us looks, and we weren’t sure whether this was the most carefree first date or if we had just scared the other off.
Fast-forwarding a year, the answer was clear. The first year of our relationship was filled with similar goofiness and laughing sessions, while something much more significant was forming under the surface. Through crossing the river to visit each other and plenty of long evening phone calls, we began to discover how much we had in common – our love of nature, our dreams of owning land, our commitment to family, our appreciation of the simple things. In June of the following year, we joined each other in our current home in Independence, KY.
Soon we were building more than a home together – we were building a lifestyle. The beginning stages of our dream of self-sufficiency began to take root as we built our first vegetable garden, built a fence for our dogs, placed an emphasis on obtaining our own meat, worked to make our home more efficient, and learned skills to reduce dependency on special trades. Now, with almost two years under our belt in our home together, navigating the trials and tribulations that come with change and growth, we are excited for the future and bringing our dream of self-sufficiency to fruition.
In addition to the joy we’ve found in each other, we have both experienced the joy from those with whom we surround ourselves. We both feel so very blessed to not only have found each other, but to have found each other’s large families, who have welcomed us in with open arms. When family is the most important thing in your life, one of the greatest gifts is finding someone who feels the same way.
On November 15, 2025, we went for a hike with our puppies, one of our favorite things to do together. Overlooking the Ohio River, we made the promise of a lifelong commitment to one another.
Next on the agenda after the wedding…
Our next big goals are expanding our vegetable garden, obtaining a herd share, and raising chickens. In the years to come we hope to find our dream piece of land where we can further our goal of self-sustainability and to start a family to share it all with!
